Barra Grande is a tranquil fishing village on the Marau Peninsula in the south of Bahia. It is situated in the Bay of Camamu', which is one of the most beautiful in Brazil. The waters are calm and crystal clear. The golden beaches are perfect for an unforgettable stroll under the coconut palms. It is one of the few places in Brazil where you can enjoy the sunset above the ocean which is bathed in orange light. Barra Grande is off the usual tourist itineraries, so it is still possible to find authentic village life surrounded by untouched nature.

Barra Grande offers the visitor the chance to experience brazilian village life, but also has all of the amenities you need to make your stay pleasurable. You can take a walk through the alleys of the village and be met with smiles from the local inhabitants. You can enjoy the village nightlife, from shopping at the stalls of the local craftsmarket, to sipping a drink at the bars along the moonlit beach. You can go to one of the many restaurants or enjoy a drumming concert or even find yourself joining in with the party spirit and dancing the night away!

Taipus de Fora is considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Brazil with its natural blue pools that nestle among the rocks of the barrier reef. Swimming, snorkelling and diving are the main activities, and it is possible to see sea turtles.You can reach Taipu de Fora walking along the pristine palm-lined beach (about 1 hour) or there are also Taxi and shuttle services that link Taipu and Barra Grande. For those who want greater independence, it is possible to rent a dune-buggy, motorcycle or bicycle from the reception at Pousada Mediterraneo.

Other noteworthy beaches are Tres Coqueros and Bombaca which are great for surfing.

Cascate di Tremembè
The waterfalls of Tremembè are stunningly beautiful. You can take a swim in one of the fresh water pools while monkeys, parrots and many other species of multi-coloured birds look on. Excursions can be booked from agencies in the village. It is also possible to reach the waterfalls paddling upstream by kayak. As the kayak trip takes two days, it is recommended for people who are physically fit.
